Story
My designs are inspired by origami - the art of folding paper. I first became interested when I was taught how to fold paper birds as a child. Since then, the process of transformation from two dimensions to three has always fascinated me. The Fold Lampshade was the first of Folds' origami inspired objects. The design was a continuation of paper lampshades designed during my final year of design school.
The lampshade took nine months to fully resolve from a starting fold with paper through to its present form. Since its release in 2004 it has featured in numerous magazines over the years both here and overseas. It is now included in the New Oceania display at the Auckland Museum.
